How to Experience an Amazing, Luxury Facial!

There’s a common saying, when you work hard, you should play hard, too. At Wellness Origin, we are here to recommend to you that however you work or play, make sure to relax properly and beneficially!

Facial.png

My personal favorite Spa treatment is a luxury, organic facial. I love the experience of laying on the relaxing, lightly heated therapy bed and feeling the soothing oils, serums, masques and creams being massaged into my skin. The aromatherapy of the treatment usually lulls me into a deep relaxation and often sleep. Knowing that once the facial is finished, my skin will have an even more radiant, clear, youthful glow than before I came in is like a cherry on top of a vegan nice cream sundae. ❤

There are a few common practices I adore doing prior to a facial to maximize its relaxing benefits. It is amazing to take a light meditation before coming in to the Spa, this way your mind is already clear and relaxed before you arrive for the service. Maximizing your relaxation time is essential, especially during busy times in life! Learn more about our tips to staying stress free here!

It is also soothing to wear comfortable clothing which you feel your best in. I love to come in a pair of leggings and a cute, loosely fitted T shirt. Clothing that you can fully relax in will help your muscles soften and your mind clear. Also, wearing clothing that makes you feel good will guide you to feel like the princess or prince that you are during your luxury treatment.

Eminence Organic Skin Care is the brand we use for our facials at Wellness Origin. This exotic line of skin care combines fruits and herbs in the way nature intended them. The potent benefits of the ingredients is eminent in their aromas, sweet textures and beautifying effects on the face.

In a treatment room surrounded by Eminence skin care, beautiful relaxing music and amazing service, I truly feel like I am in heaven! I wish that you will come experience the fabulous treatment and beautifying effects of a Luxury Facial!

Our Top 6 Tips for a Stress-Free Holiday Season

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We love the holiday season and everything that comes with it. Sometimes, though, the hustle and bustle of final projects, wrapping presents, visiting relatives, and making all that food, can become a distraction from actually enjoying the season. Here’s Wellness Origin’s top six tips to help you relax and de-stress to get the most out of the holidays.

  • Cook familiar recipes- If you’ve ever made a meal on a time crunch, you know that cooking something that you’ve cooked a few times before makes everything go a little smoother. It’s easier to incorporate your kids, there won’t be any curveballs, and you know how it will turn out.

  • Start your online shopping early- Some credit cards offer a higher amount of cashback bonus if you use their card at a certain store during certain months. Take advantage of this by buying your gifts at that time. You get more money back, and the item will likely be in stock depending on how early you purchase it. Save the items you know will go on sale for later. Often, stores will give you money back if you buy an item a certain amount of time before it goes on sale. So, keep track of your ads and receipts, and buy gifts early so you’re not scrambling towards the end of December!

  • Wrap presents as you go- So you bought your presents early… might as well wrap them early, too! Sticky notes are a great way to keep track of their contents and keeping organized. Bonus: this also makes it harder for the kids to sneak a peek if the presents are already wrapped and ready to go.

  • Keep your mind and body energized- Staying energized is important during this time of year. There’s a million different activities and tasks to accomplish, and keeping your mind clear and energized will help you accomplish more. Wellness Origin’s Wild Superfood Complete is a dietary supplement that will give you the nourishment and energy you need this season.

  • Take some time for yourself- You’ve been working hard organizing parties, cooking, shopping, and wrapping. It’s time to de-stress and actually enjoy the season. Get a massage from our massage therapist, Nathan (some say he has the hands of God.) Or an all organic facial from our talented esthetician, Kelsey. (book your facial here). You could even take a series of yoga classes with our instructor, Claudia. Yoga is a great way to de-stress, and you can bring your friends along!

  • Take notes for next year- Finally, make sure you take note of what new ideas worked this year, and how to improve on others. This will set you up for another stress-less holiday season next year.

There’s no denying that we’re all busy from Halloween through the New Year. So, we’re taking any steps necessary to relax, de-stress, and spend more time with loved ones.

Juice, Juice and More Juice!

Fresh, cold pressed juices are becoming a popular beverage at restaurants and cafes across the country. Our marketing coordinator Claudia Varga will share with you the benefits of juicing and why to choose organic, fresh juices over other choices.

Juices contain delicious mixtures of highly concentrated vitamins and minerals. You can easily combine fruits and vegetables to form creative concoctions in a matter of minutes. Living Greens Juice shares how juices rapidly absorb into the bloodstream because they are already in liquid form. Because of this, you receive a powerhouse of nutrition and a boost in energy  after drinking a good juice. Juices are also very hydrating, as they contain a mixture of water with the nutrition of the fruits and vegetables.

Juicing also makes eating larger amounts of fruits and vegetables much more efficient – you can intake the juice of several apples in a fraction of the time it would take to chew them. This way, you can bring your nutrition to go!

It is important to make sure you are making or purchasing organic fruits and vegetables in your juices, to minimize the effects of bad chemicals and pesticides on your produce. Organic soils also will contain a wider spectrum of minerals in the soil, giving your food more nutrition. Buying or making juices that are freshly pressed is also very beneficial, as fresh juices still hold the living enzymes from the foods in them. To learn more about why to eat organic, check out our post on What is Organic?

There are a variety of common juices you can choose from as you begin your juicing journey: many green juices aid in detoxification or providing fiber to the body, berry juices are high in antioxidants, and carrot juices are amazing for the eyes. These are just suggestions, however, for you to choose from an abundance of fruits and vegetables to create your own unique recipes! Happy Juicing!

Hand in Hand: Yoga and Nutrition

Yoga is a physical practice combining movement, in the form of asanas or postures, with the inhalation and exhalation of the breath. Practicing yoga has a variety of health benefits. Yoga Journal cites several key benefits of yoga as improving flexibility through gradual loosening of the muscles. Muscle strength is built along with flexibility, aiding in the prevention of conditions such as arthritis and back pain. Mental clarity and stress relief are also major benefits of attending regular yoga class.

The focus on breathe throughout yoga helps bring oxygen throughout the body to the cells. This increases the oxygen content in the body, aiding with the proper functioning of all of the organ systems. The combination of movement and breathe in yoga helps the body’s own cleansing mechanisms, such as the lymphatics system, restore the body. When combined with proper nutrition, the body is able to more effectively clear out toxins naturally from the tissues.

Our yoga program, launched in January 2016, entails a variety of classes to help students gain a well-rounded perspective on yoga. We offer Slow Flow, Vinyasa, Power and Couples sessions. Learn more about Wellness Origin’s spa remedies for relaxation here.

What is Organic?

“Organically grown” food is food grown and processed using no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Organic food differs from conventionally produced food in the way it is grown, handled, and processed. Most of the organic foods that have this USDA Organic sticker on it are guaranteed to be at least 95% organically grown.

2000px-USDA_organic_seal.svg

There are other labels on products that you do have to become aware of when shopping for your next meal. Other truthful claims, such as free-range, hormone-free and natural can still appear on food labels.  However, don’t confuse these terms with “organic.”  Only food labeled “organic” has been certified as meeting USDA organic standards. Non-GMO foods may not be genetically modified, but still use synthetic pesticides.

So why chose organic over the alternative? Big issues with the other conventional food we eat are antibiotics and pesticides – when used to grow our food, they are harmful to your health. Pesticides have been shown to lead to food allergies, memory loss, and cancer. In 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the CDC all testified before Congress that there is a connection between the routine use of antibiotics for meat production and the declining effectiveness of antibiotics for people.  Dr. Thomas R. Rieden, Director of the CDC, noted that “there is strong scientific evidence of a link between antibiotic use in food animals and antibiotic resistance in humans.”

In the end, your safest bet to make sure you are eating the best mother nature has to offer is to either grow your own fruits and vegetables, or buy organically produced foods. If space or time stops you from being able to grow your own food supply, Wellness Origin has some simple methods of adding minerals and nutrients back into your foods and beverages – check out  Humic Fulvic Focus.

Health: It’s Not a Diet, It’s a Lifestyle

Changing you eating habits can be a challenge, but the end result is life changing in the best way possible. In today’s society, we are surrounded by fast food and media advertisements. In a better world, we would surround ourselves with fresh fruits and vegetable advertisements geared towards educating the public about the importance of not eating processed and GMO foods. I didn’t know about this before I started working at Wellness Origin about what was really going on with the food situation.

Knowledge is power. I was powerless before, food consumed my mind for years. Convenience was of the up most importance for me at that time in my life, the quicker the better. If we actually take the time to slow down and enjoy life, life is much more enjoyable.

As I slowly started to cut out certain things from my diet, first dairy then grains I started feeling different. I started feeling better, happier, lighter and full of energy. A kind of energy I had not felt in years. I was finally motivated again. I wanted to clean my house, read lots of books and make art again. It was as if I was living life through foggy glasses before. Things started to taste better, colors looked more vivid and even my reflexes started to improve. I began to ask myself if this was just a diet I was going to try out for a while or if this would lead to something bigger and better, a better life.

Right now, many Americans are on a diet. Many others gave up on their diets and are on a binge. Collectively, we are overweight, sick and struggling. Our modern food choices about what and how much to eat have gone terribly wrong. The time has come to return to a more sensible way of eating and living, but which way? Maybe we should just eat the way our ancestors did. In addition to understanding early humans and other hominids, we need to understand the diet of our ancestors during the times when the main features of our guts, and their magical abilities to turn food into life, evolved.

So far studies of foragers like the Tsimane, Arctic Inuit, and Hadza have found that these peoples traditionally didn’t develop high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, or cardiovascular disease. “A lot of people believe there is discordance between what we eat today and what our ancestors evolved to eat,” says paleoanthropologist Peter Ungar of the University of Arkansas.

Diving into one of the possible avenues for developing a healthy lifestyle, the earliest records of vegetarianism as a concept and practice amongst a significant number of people concern ancient India and the ancient Greek civilizations in southern Italy and Greece. In Greece during classical antiquity, the vegetarian diet was called abstinence from beings with a soul. As a principle or deliberate way of life it was always limited to a rather small number of practitioners belonging to specific philosophical schools or certain religious groups.

There was a widely held belief, popular among both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, that in the Golden Age of the beginning of humanity mankind, were strictly non-violent. In that utopian state of the world hunting, livestock breeding, and meat-eating, as well as agriculture were unknown and unnecessary, as the earth spontaneously produced in abundance all the food its inhabitants needed. I understand why our ancestors lived that lifestyle. Health is not a diet – our ancestors show us how it can be a lifestyle.

Relaxation: Remedies to Replace Stress

Overwhelming stress has become an increasingly common characteristic of modern living. It can easily lead to fatigue, weight gain or more serious conditions of dis-ease.

Throughout our daily activities, we rarely breathe deeply or keep our muscles relaxed. Tensions builds up in the form of toxic metabolites. Living in an environment with ever increasing toxicity adds extra stress to our system – extra energy is needed to deal with it and detoxify it on a daily basis.

During relaxation, our bodies sink into a parasympathetic state where repair occurs. To combat daily stresses, prioritize your relaxation remedies based on personal comfort and preferences:

  • Massage: An excellent form of relaxation. Massages provides more than just medicial benefits to the body. It helps the release of built up metabolic wastes, allowing drainage, tissue cleansing and rejuvenation. Wellness Origin offers a variety of massage modalities to suit all needs.
  • Body wraps: Therapeutic-Grade Clay and Herbs have the ability to extract toxicity and release calming nutrients into the body. Body wrap sessions are truly relaxing and rejuvenating.
  • Oxygen therapies: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy helps to increase oxygen in the tissues and promotes the release of toxic substances, aiding true relaxation and accelerated healing.
  • Yoga: Yoga combined with deep breathing can reduce anxiety and stress. It also improves flexibility, strength, balance, and stamina.
  • Meditation: Visualization, or guided imagery, is a variation on traditional meditation that requires you to employ not only your visual sense, but also your sense of taste, touch, smell, and hearing. When used as a relaxation technique, visualization involves imagining a scene in which you feel at peace, free to let go of all tension and anxiety.
  • Detox bath: For home care, detoxifying organic salts and therapeutic clay can be added to a bath. This form of cleansing creates deep relaxation in the body, since it removes toxicity from the tissues and lymphatics, creating a blood cleansing effect. Detox bathing before sleep will result in better sleep and deeper rejuvenation.
  • Infrared detoxification coupled with sweating assists in reducing stress related symptoms that result from toxic build up.
  • BEMER: The bioenergy modulating effect of this technology helps to balance the energetics of the body and provide quick rejuvenation.

Combining two or more of the above mentioned modalities and applying them regularly can bring profound results and long term benefits in increasing physical stamina. Learn the next step in wellness after relaxation –  achieving health through living foods.

Live, Laugh, Love – With Living Foods

Over the past decade, there has been a growing emphasis on incorporating living foods into our daily diets. Living foods are foods in the form intended by nature. This means they are uncooked and untreated with any type of chemical, so they are completely raw and in their natural state. The ultimate living foods would be an apple just picked off of a tree, a carrot just picked from the ground, or freshly harvested cacao beans.

Here is a Q & A on my journey towards eating more living foods and, well, living more!

Why living foods? When we cook our foods, we are denaturing the nutrients in the foods. When these foods move through our bodies, there is less nutrition for our bodies to extract from the food. So we overcompensate. We end up having to eat more cooked foods than our bodies would need. This results in fatigue, tiredness, weight gain, mental fogginess throughout our daily lives.

What if you could eat a diet that promotes energy, effectiveness and clarity?

These are among several of the benefits that incorporating more living foods into my diet has done for me in my journey through life. Adjusting to this fast paced, modern lifestyle is much easier when you have the power within yourself to perform well!

Over the past 2-3 years since shifting into majority living foods, I perform better at work, I have found myself having the capacity to give more to my relationships and overall I enjoy life more. Other benefits I hear from health food adventurers is that they experience better rest in less time, major weight loss, lessening of stress and anxiety and mental sharpness and alertness.

How to make living foods tasty? Well, food is fun! I think of myself as a “food artist,” I always make my foods look really fun and artistic, like a painting with food! This way I am always excited to eat my living foods. Also I create crazy spice concoctions which make the foods I eat so good that I end up cooking plenty! Here are a few examples:
